Westermo is establishing a new office in Bangalore, India. As one of the world’s fastest growing major economies with massive ongoing and projected infrastructure investments, India is clearly an attractive market for Westermo. This is a key step in the company’s geographical expansion and an opportunity to tap into the market potential in this expansive market. The entity will be a combination of a sales unit and an assembly site.

On May 20th, Mr. Anith Anandan took on the role of managing the new entity. Anith has a background in Industrial Engineering and Business Management. He has worked with global corporations like Wago, Omron, TE Connectivity, and Lapp, bringing a wealth of knowledge to the table.

"My priority as I start my position is to establish Westermo’s legal entity in India. The next step is to establish our sales office and assembly unit in Bangalore. We are currently recruiting key positions in sales, operations, and technical support," says Anith.

The new sales office will be located in Hebbal, Bangalore North. Located near the airport and the most developed part of the city, this is an ideal place for Westermo in India to attract talent and to have as base for meeting customers.

"Our sales and assembly operations will be housed in the same building, approximately 11,500 square feet of office space (1070m2)," says Anith, and continues. "We selected this location because it is well-connected to the highway, the outer ring road, and will be further enhanced by the proximity to new built metro and high-speed rail network stations. Suppliers, customers, and industrial hubs are also nearby."

Through his experience in rail, energy, industrial automation, and equipment manufacturers, Anith has a good understanding of their needs and challenges.

"Our robust and reliable solutions, combined with our top-notch technical support and service, make a very strong offering for the Indian market. I envision the Westermo brand becoming the first choice for mission-critical networks in India." explains Anith.

In the field of industrial data communications, India is a large market with several business opportunities as digitalization is at the core of utilities, transportation as well as general industry. The Indian market has been consistently growing in almost all segments and could be the world’s third largest economy in a few years to come, surpassing Japan. Notably, Sustainability and Cyber Security are equally important to Westermo’s typical customer base in India as in, for example, Europe and North America.

Anith explains that India has the fourth largest railway system in the world and that the upcoming decade will see significant investments in train networks and trackside infrastructure.

"The Indian Railways is one of the largest and most complex rail networks in the world. Through secure and reliable networks, Westermo plays a vital role in connecting people and places in this growing market.” He continues, “Another growing sector is the energy market. India is the world's third largest electricity producer. The high demand for electricity often leads to power shortages and blackouts in this sector. In the next decade we will see large investments in modernizing grid infrastructure, implementing smart grid technologies, and integrating renewable energy sources into the grid. With our Bangalore presence, we anticipate many new business opportunities as they arise over time."
