As part of Westermo's sustainability strategy, the company has developed a new framework for Community Engagement and Social Sponsorship Initiatives, which aim to make a positive impact on environmental, social, and economic challenges, while staying true to Westermo's core business values. One of Westermo's most recent initiatives is its sponsorship of Engineers Without Borders Sweden. In line with Westermo's philosophy that engineering is key to addressing climate change and environmental problems, this organization leverages engineering expertise to build a sustainable future.
During 2024 a cross functional group, lead by Lena Westerholm, Head of Sustainability, and Elin Sandell, HR Specialist, have developed Westermo's Community Engagement and Social Sponsorship framework to create guidance and make sure initiatives align with Westermo's sustainability strategy and core business values.
Alignment with Westermo’s Sustainability Strategy and Values
Westermo’s community engagement and social sponsorship initiatives are integrated into the company’s sustainability strategy, covering environmental, social, and economic dimensions.
“With the framework in place, we have good guidance when it comes to sustainability's social dimension, ensuring our initiatives not only align with our business, but also with our expertise and competencies within Westermo.” says Lena.
When selecting projects or organizations to sponsor, the framework help ensure alignment with Westermo’s core business and values.
“We believe engineering plays a crucial role in addressing environmental challenges, making our efforts in this area a natural extension of our work,” explains Elin.
A new sponsorship with Engineers Without Borders
One of the newly formed sponsorships is with Engineers Without Borders Sweden. Using engineering expertise, this organization aims to solve challenges related to climate change, as well as improve access to fundamental services like water, electricity, and infrastructure, as well as improve access to essential services.
"We are very pleased to welcome Westermo as a partner to Engineers Without Borders Sweden. Westermo's commitment and technical expertise are a valuable addition to our work to reduce global inequalities and create sustainable solutions for the future. Together, we can make a difference and contribute to a more just and sustainable world." Says Caroline Edelstam, Secretary-General at Engineers Without borders.
"We have found a partner who aligns with our values and company spirit," says Elin. "As part of our commitment to fighting climate change, we have decided to support Engineers Without Borders. We believe that engineering is key to solve environmental challenges, which is in line with their work and mission."
