On-board systems have progressively become more complex and the requirement for secure, robust, and reliable data communications is integral to the safety of our railways. Millions of people rely on railway transportation systems every day, with the expectation that the train arrives and departs on time, customers are safe during transit and their data is secure. This is no easy task and takes many thousands of systems in place to ensure all these operate, especially together.
Westermo has been at the forefront of on-board train systems for decades. The Viper family has been designed and implemented on many on-board systems all over the world and as systems grow, the Viper enables development and expansion with ease.
With the increasing desire for customers using the Internet, cybersecurity has become a primary industry focus. News of customer data breaches and system hacks is now a regular occurrence rather than a rare incident. Customers seek both safety during travel and whilst connecting to the Internet. More importantly the safety of the on-board system is to always remain secure.
The Viper 3000 series maintain the form, fit, and function of all previous Viper products. Its most notable feature is the identical footprint to the existing product family. This enables upgrades or replacements to be seamless, as the new unit fits perfectly into existing systems. The Viper's proven design is among the most compact, efficient, and robust solution on the market, ensuring a smooth transition.
At Westermo, security is paramount to our product design. The Viper 3000 series, with its ongoing IEC 62443-4-2 SL2 Certificate, stands as one of the most secure products available today. The IEC 62443-4-2 certification provides supply chain transparency, enabling full confidence and collaboration throughout every process. This complements many other conformities that the family offers, such as EN 50155, EN 50121-3-2 and EN 50121-4.
The Viper 3000 series is powered by WeOS 5, Westermo’s next generation operating system. WeOS 5 offers a best-in-class OS, such as extended logging, firewalls, and Secure Boot. With Secure Boot Westermo ensures that only trusted and authorized firmware is allowed and is compatible with all WeOS devices. Secure Boot protects devices from malicious software, which could lead to high jacking not only the device but the whole system itself.
Collectively, the design, simplicity, and enrichment of cybersecurity features display the endless possibilities for all customer requirements and provide safety for all who are on-board.
“The Viper family has been successfully implemented on numerous on-board systems worldwide, demonstrating its reliability and effectiveness. As systems evolve, the Viper family facilitates seamless development and growth. In an era where cybersecurity is paramount, the Viper 3000 series stands out as a robust and secure solution, ensuring the safety and integrity of customer data.”
